Resources

Thank you for visiting the YONI SHAKTI resources page. I have here made available a range of written, visual and audio material to support understanding and practical encounter with the yogic and tantric practices shared in my book Yoni Shakti. In particular I am keen to empower readers who resonate with the messages at the heart of the book to spread those messages through, for example, sharing the Introduction and the Womb Yoga Manifesto with those friends, studio-owners and yoga teachers in their lives who may need to receive these messages. The practice guides are extracts from the book describing some key techniques of Womb Yoga. The complete set of ten Yoga Nidra practices to support the stages of our lives as women are also available to download from this page.

I hope that this material is of value to you on your yoga journey. In order for the materials to be widely accessible, I have, (with the exception of the book herself), chosen not to charge for any item. Instead, I have simply offered them for free download. If you value the materials, then I invite for your to contribute whatever feels appropriate through the contribute page. These contributions reflect the value you place on the material, so please pay whatever you feel you want to. Monies received through this site are used to support the maintenance and updating of the site, and to pay for the additional design work and sound engineering involved in rendering the material beauteous, pleasing and useful.

Consider this a matter of trust and honour:
I trust that if you value this work you will honour it with an appropriate donation.

THANK YOU

Downloading instruction/help

In order to access these files you first need to "add them to your cart" as you would with most online shops, and in the process use your email address and create password of your choosing. During the checkout process you will be given an opportunity to add your contribution. Finally you will simply need to come back to this page (and login on the right hand side if neccesary) and the download links will become active (you can click on them).

To download for offline use

To save them to your computer you either need to hold down ctrl and click on them on a mac, or right click on them on a pc to bring up a menu, and select "Save Link As..." or similar and choose where on your computer to save them. Alternatively just click them and then go to file->save page as/save as. Clicking and holding on a tablet can provide options to save the file, but not always, if you have difficulty that way we suggest you use a computer.

Audio file special instrucitons

The yoga nidra tracks are mp3 audio files. To use them, on my computer I would save it to the desktop, and then drag it to itunes, and then sync it to my ipod for easy offline listening, but you may have a different method that you prefer. Please be aware that we have had some reports of the yoga nidra audio files not playing to the end when listening without first downloading to your computer, which in the middle of a meditation can be a bit diffcult for the meditator. They can work online depending on your, and our interntet connection at the time. For this reason, we always recommend downloading to your computer first and listening offline.

Introduction to YONI SHAKTI

Introduction to yoni shakti

This nine page pdf is an excerpt from the beginning of Yoni Shakti. It's the introductory material that sets out the scope of the book, and presents some very radical and exciting ideas about women and power and yoga and language. It's my belief that this is one of the most vivid and exciting parts of the book, so I am glad to share this with you here. I do hope you enjoy reading this download, and I'd be glad to hear from you once you've read it - there are many topics for discussion presented here. Lets get some debate going amongst the thinking yoginis…

This striking eleven page pdf sets out the basic principles and guidelines for practicing womb friendly yoga.
It is a manifesto advocating respect for women in yoga practice.
It includes:
a clear exposition of why honouring womb cycles is the foundation of a refined and sensitive yoga practice for women;
a set of straightforward guidelines for safe practice of yoga during the many special times of a woman's life, including during menstruation, pregnancy, when using an IUD, postnatally, during peri-menopause, and when hoping to conceive.
guidance on issues including inversions, bandhas and pumping breaths.

This is a useful reference for any yoga teacher whose classes include women, or any yoga studio manager who runs yoga classes attended by female students.

Yoga Nidra 1: Starry night pure yoga nidra (a fundamental practice of awareness - Kali)

Yoga nidra starry night image

This twenty-six minute yoga nidra practice is an invitation to settle into spacious awareness. It is an open, feminine and welcoming practice. The rotation of consciousness uses the image of a constellation of stars. The practice in this form was first shared at the Return to Centre Women's Retreat at Cae Mabon, in Snowdonia in 2013: http://returntocentre.org.uk/#/cae-mabon/4550555760. This version was specially recorded for Yoni Shakti readers in my own studio in Stroud, and has been sound engineered to render it clear and very easy to hear. The original practice arrived during intensive yoga nidra practice in preparation for the Total Yoga Nidra Teacher Training programme. For more details see www.yoganidranetwork.org. I hope you enjoy the practice. The practice is described in prose on pages 435-441 oof Yoni Shakti and it connects to the energies of Kali as a guardian protectress of time and change.

Yoga Nidra 2: New Beginnings (menarche, innocence, trust and power - Sodasi)

Sodasi / Sri Yantra

This thirty-eight minute yoga nidra practice honours the vulnerable power of innocence and the tender bright hope that accompanies new beginnings of any kind. It connects with the menarcheal energies of Sodasi, the sixteen year old goddess, and is intended to provide supportive inspiration for any time of new beginning. It is a recording of the practice described on page 442 of Yoni Shakti.

Yoga Nidra 3: Cyclical Wisdom (Menstruation, cycles and seasonal turnings - Tara)

Circling snake of cyclical wisdom

This twenty-six minute yoga nidra invites you to connect with the deep feminine knowing of cyclical wisdom in the form of the seasonal life of the womb's cycles. It is inspired by my personal connection with the 'Seasons of the Menstrual Cycle' teachings of Alexandra Pope. This nidra first arrived as I began to practice menstrual cycle awareness as a conscious spiritual discipline. I have shared this nidra with many groups of yoginis on my womb yoga trainings and retreats all over Europe and it sits very naturally with those women who are open to the experience of menstrual consciousness as a spiritual practice. For women who are not experiencing menstrual cycles at the present time, or who have passed over the menopause, then these seasonal images resonate more widely in terms of the turning of seasons in our life cycles. I hope you enjoy listening to this version of the practice which was specially recorded for you in my own yoga studio in Stroud. The practice is described on page 443-4 of Yoni Shakti) and it connects to the protective and guiding energies of Tara.

Yoga Nidra 4: In the Wild Garden (joyous freedom to flow - sexuality, creativity and juice - Kamalatmika and Matangi)

Matangi

This forty minute yoga nidra celebrates the twin joys of creativity and sexuality. The practice invites you to enter your own wild garden and to delight in the sensual and creative nature of your own source place. This yoga nidra connects with the energies of Matangi and Kamalatmika, the Mahavidyas who stand guardian in Yoni Shakti over the potent forces of our creativity and sexuality respectively. It is a recording of the practice described on page 445-6 of Yoni Shakti. I hope you enjoy your encounter with the wildness of your own garden!

Yoga Nidra 5: Nourishing Growth (nurturing the capacity to support new life - Bhuvaneshwari)

Bhuvaneshwari

This forty-three minute yoga nidra practice creates a spacious welcome for new life. It was intended initially and specifically to support women through the experience of pregnancy, using the mother's breath to nourish the child, and carrying awareness around the body of the child within the womb. It may also be a helpful practice to use when seeking to conceive, if you are happy to invite the unborn (and as yet perhaps unconceived child) to inhabit your womb. Some women also enjoy to use this practice to support a re-integration of their own inner child, and imagine that it is their own self residing in the comfort of the womb. This is a recording of the practice described on 446-8 of Yoni Shakti. I hope it nourishes you.
